Booksellers in Japan have noticed that the newly updated edition of Marie Kondo’s Tidying Up (Jinsei ga Tokimeku Katazuke no Maho) is out from a different publisher. Bunshun Online reports that Kondo retrieved all rights from Sunmark Publishing, most known for self-help titles by the authors they discovered and nurtured, to Kawade Shobo Shinsha, known for more literary authors including Fuminori Nakamura and Sayaka Murata.
The notice was given to Sunmark from Kondo that she wanted to control the rights herself in March, when the current deal expired. Kawade acknowledged that they were approached by Kondo’s agent last year regarding her new title scheduled for 2020, as well as the two Tidying Up titles.
